Go for a walk...

Today, I want you to do something that you may not have done in a while.

Take out your phone and place it on the counter. If you have headphones on, put them also down on the counter. Grab a piece of paper and pen and place it here for when you return.

Now, without any electronic technology on your person, go outside and go for an hour long walk.

Have no plan where you will go short of walking one way for 30 minutes and then walking back for 30 minutes.

While you walk, try to be "in the moment" or "in the now".

Try and see the different colors of green in the trees around you. Listen for the sounds of birds, the wind, the traffic. Try and perceive if the smells are different from one street to the next. Feel the weight of your body on your feet.

For the full 60 minutes, listen to your internal dialog. That voice in your head that you cannot hear when there is other stimulus going on. Listen to the random thoughts that your mind has while you walk.

When you return, before you check anything on your phone, write one short paragraph on something that you saw or thought or felt on the walk.

To be here, in the now, this is what it means to be alive.
