I lost 10% of my body weight
Quick Reflection:
I got on the scale this morning and it shows that I have lost 20 pounds since I started on this attempt to lose weight (to reduce my body fat) in December of 2020. Based on my starting weight, this is also the equivalent of losing about 10% of my original body weight.
What is funny about that amount of weight loss is that I don't feel any different, or rather, since the change occurred slowly I cannot remember what it was like to be carrying an extra 20 pounds of body fat on my frame. I am comfortably wearing a pair of pants that I purchased 8 years ago, the last time that I was at this weight and that is nice. When I sit on the couch writing this post, my belly is not spilling over the top of my pants and that is nice but I for some reason I thought that I would feel different having lost that much weight. I am not in a weight loss group or club and my spouse is not doing the same thing as me so no one is cheering me on as I reach a goal. It is kind of like going hiking by yourself and getting to the top of the mountain, or running a route where you beat your last time but not one is watching.
The one thing I notice that has changed has been my relationship to certain foods. I intentionally went the low-carb route to lose weight. One of the interesting side-effects of eating like this is that my cravings for sweet and/or carbohydrate dense foods has diminished. I do not feel driven to snack like I used to, especially in the evening. As I mentioned elsewhere, my cravings for alcohol, beer especially, is gone. When I am not drinking in the evening I also have a lower desire to eat snacks. If I choose to not eat a meal, my hunger is almost always manageable.
So, that is my reflection for today.
